I love the Fastnet and have a mild obsession with lighthouses. I was so happy to get into the water on my Fastnet Swim Day, being so up close to this amazing feat of design and construction is a privilege.

Whilst I swam, I thought about the landscape of the amazing coast, how lucky we are to live on an island, and how Steve Redmond had first swum this amazing route.

I wasn’t hugely bothered about how long this swim was going to take, my previous longest swim had been 6 hours, I’m an averagely slow swimmer, but strong willed.

Swimming into the slip in Baltimore Harbor was something I had manifested for many years and is a memory I will cherish forever. I’m hugely grateful to Kieran, Noel and Nathan, and my own crew, Aidan, Marie and Joeleen for making this possible. If I had been allowed, I would have swum back out the following day! I’m an occasional crew member (benefits include a lap of the Fastnet at the end of a swim) and am an observer for the 2024 Fastnet season.
